Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has issued invitations to apply (ITAs) in the latest Express Entry draw. This Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw saw 920 ITAs issued, with candidates needing a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 739 to qualify.
This draw follows three program-specific draws last month. On June 19, IRCC issued 1,499 ITAs in another PNP-only draw with a minimum CRS score of 663. On May 30 and 31, IRCC conducted PNP-only and Canadian Experience Class (CEC) draws, inviting 2,985 and 3,000 candidates, respectively.
Program-specific draws target candidates from the Express Entry pool who applied through programs like the CEC, Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), or Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). PNP-only draws consider candidates nominated through an Express Entry aligned stream of a PNP, known as enhanced nomination.
Until recently, category-based selection draws had not occurred since their introduction in May 2023. IRCC aims to stabilize the high number of temporary residents by offering more pathways to permanent residency. Many temporary residents apply for permanent residence through the CEC and PNP.
The Express Entry system, introduced in 2015, manages applications from the FSWP, FSTP, and CEC. It uses the CRS to evaluate candidates based on factors like age, work experience, language ability, and occupation. Higher CRS scores increase the likelihood of receiving an ITA.
Category-based selection draws, introduced in 2023, allow IRCC to target candidates with in-demand attributes for Canada’s workforce or to strengthen the French-speaking demographic. Categories include healthcare, STEM professions, trades, transport, agriculture and agri-food, and French-language proficiency.

What is Express Entry?
The Express Entry application management system targets candidates with in-demand human capital attributes and processes their applications faster. It manages applications from the FSWP, FSTP, and CEC. The CRS considers factors like age, work experience, language ability, and occupation to evaluate a candidate’s eligibility.
What is Category-Based Selection?
Category-based selection draws target Express Entry candidates with in-demand attributes for Canada’s workforce or to strengthen the French-speaking demographic. IRCC introduced six categories: healthcare, STEM professions, trades, transport, agriculture and agri-food, and French-language proficiency. These draws are not program-specific and typically have lower CRS scores compared to general draws.
